5 Types of Air Conditioner (AC) Problems
1. No Cool Air
If your unit is on, but cool air is not flowing through your vents, your AC’s blower belt may be damaged and need replacement. Another potential cause for the lack of cool air is refrigerant leakage. With regular maintenance performed on your cooling system, you can prevent this from happening.
2. Air Conditioner Operates Constantly
Has your air conditioner ever run for hours in an attempt to reach the thermostat’s set temperature? This may indicate a faulty component within your unit. To effectively diagnose your issue, contact a reputable HVAC company for air conditioning repair services.
3. Air Conditioner Turns On & Off
An air conditioner that involuntarily shuts on and off is a hazardous problem. To ensure this air conditioning repair issue is solved in a timely manner, hire a certified technician to perform an in-depth assessment.
4. Cooling System Doesn’t Turn On
If your system trips in the middle of the night, you can wake up drenched in sweat. When your air conditioner has turned off and won’t come back on, there is likely an issue with the wiring. Our team offers exceptional air conditioning repair services for homes in areas such as Jersey City, Woodbridge, Paterson, Newark, Trenton, and Edison. Do not try to fix the wiring in your system without a professional. Schedule emergency HVAC services with our technicians.
5. Refrigerant Leak
If your unit starts blowing semi-cool air, your refrigerant may be leaking. Please note: adding more coolant will not fix this issue. You’ll need a qualified HVAC professional to conduct an air conditioning repair and fix the refrigerant leak. Once the leak is detected and resolved, our team will add more refrigerant to your system.
Signs It’s Time to Conduct An Air Conditioner Repair
Your air conditioner will make noise during a normal cycle. If, however, you hear any unusual sounds, your unit may be on its last leg.
The Fan Doesn’t Work
If your cooling unit is on, but the fan isn’t blowing, the capacitor is probably faulty. Ensure this is the issue with professional air conditioner service performed by an HVAC technician.
Experiencing humidity indoors is a definite sign that you need emergency air conditioning repair services. A correctly operating system cools and dehumidifies your residence. Our team offers dependable air conditioning services in areas such as Newark, Haverstraw, Jersey City, Pomona, and Paterson. We will perform an inspection of your system to diagnose the source of the excess humidity in your living space. Indoor humidity should be between 30-50%. If the humidity levels are lower or higher, call our team of HVAC technicians immediately.
You should never have foul odors blow through your ventilation system. If you do, you’ll need an AC tune-up to remove any debris, feces, or dirt that may cause unpleasant odors.
Other Signs of Air Conditioner Repair Issues
Air conditioning systems aren’t as simple as they seem, which is why any troubleshooting and repairs should be left to our East Brunswick AC repair experts. No matter how old or new your air conditioner is, we have the expertise and the tools to effectively diagnose and repair the situation.
It’s likely that your system is in need of repair if:

Updates to the Regional HVAC Equipment Efficiency and Testing Standards
Effective January 1, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will update its efficiency and testing standards for residential and commercial HVAC equipment. All regulatory changes will differ by product type and region. Since the updated standards will result in price increases across all HVAC contractors, now is the time to buy the equipment you need for your home or business.
The minimum efficiency standards for residential and commercial air conditioners and heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2023, will increase. This change will increase production efficiency and national energy savings while decreasing national energy consumption.
Northern U.S. & Canada
All split-system air conditioners, split-system heat pumps, and packaged units manufactured after January 1, 2023, must meet the updated standards. However, split-system air conditioners, split-system heat pumps, and packaged units manufactured before January 1, 2023, can be installed indefinitely. The efficiency rating for air conditioners will increase from 13 SEER to 15 SEER in these regions.
Split-system air conditioners manufactured before January 1, 2023, can’t be installed once the updated standards take effect. All installations of products that don’t meet the new standards must be completed by December 31, 2022. However, split-system heat pumps, single-packaged air conditioners, and single-packaged heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2023, can be installed indefinitely. The efficiency rating for air conditioners will increase from 14 SEER to 15 SEER in both the Southwest and Southeast regions.
In addition to higher minimum efficiency standards, the M1 testing procedures used for residential and 3 to 5-ton light commercial, single-phase equipment manufactured on or after January 1, 2023, will increase. This change will produce more accurate SEER, EER, and HSPF efficiency ratings. Manufacturers will be required to re-test equipment using the new M1 Standard requirements as well as publish equipment efficiency ratings using the new efficiency metrics of SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2.
