Many water issues are not immediately visible. Common signs include hard water spots on dishes, dry or itchy skin after showering, dull hair, strange tastes or odors, cloudy water, mineral buildup on fixtures, or sediment in your water. Professional water testing is the best way to determine exactly what’s in your water and whether treatment is recommended.

The water flowing through your home supports nearly every part of your day. It washes dishes after dinner with friends, rinses shampoo from your child’s hair, fills your glass after a workout, and keeps your appliances running smoothly.
That water should always be clean, safe, and dependable.
Gold Medal provides professional water treatment system installation and replacement services designed to improve water quality for homeowners throughout Central and Southern New Jersey, and parts of Eastern New York. Our experienced plumbers evaluate your water, identify potential concerns, and recommend solutions that protect your health, plumbing, and peace of mind.
Even when issues are not immediately visible, untreated water can carry contaminants such as agricultural runoff, heavy metals, bacteria, disinfectant byproducts, or have unbalanced pH levels that affect plumbing and fixtures. Our team performs thorough testing and creates customized treatment plans to ensure your water is safe and optimized for everyday use.
Water problems in your home can negatively affect comfort and quality
It is not always obvious when water needs treatment, but there are warning signs that can indicate underlying issues. Homes connected to municipal water typically meet federal safety standards under the Safe Drinking Water Act. However, treatment systems can still improve taste, clarity, and mineral balance.
For homeowners using well water, routine testing is especially important. Private wells are not regulated the same way public systems are, which makes monitoring water quality critical for your family’s health.
Signs your water may require treatment include:
Water spots or cloudy glassware after washing
Dry or irritated skin after showering
Brittle or dull hair
Cloudy water or unusual taste or odor
Mineral buildup on faucets and fixtures
Sandy texture or visible sediment
Recurring stomach discomfort after drinking water
If you notice any of these concerns, Gold Medal can test your water and recommend the right solution.
Different water sources can create different water quality challenges
Water quality concerns vary depending on whether your home uses municipal water or a private well. Each source presents unique challenges that may require different treatment methods.
Municipal water concerns include:
Disinfectants such as chlorine, ammonia, or chloramines
Industrial or agricultural contaminants
Hard water minerals
Bacteria or microorganisms
Well water concerns include:
Acidic water or pH imbalance
Hard water
Ferrous iron staining
Nitrates
Bacteria
We provide a wide variety of water treatment solutions tailored to your home
Every home’s water is different. Our water treatment professionals may recommend a single system or a combination of technologies to deliver optimal results. Our goal is simple: clean, safe water at every tap.
Water filtration systems remove contaminants throughout your home
Whole-home filtration systems use multi-stage filtration and conditioning to reduce sediment, chlorine, chemicals, and other impurities before water reaches your faucets and appliances. These systems improve taste and odor while protecting plumbing from buildup and corrosion.
For additional protection against bacteria, we also offer UV sanitation systems that neutralize microorganisms without adding chemicals to your water.

Water softening systems reduce hard water damage and buildup
Hard water contains calcium and magnesium minerals that can leave spots on dishes, cause scale buildup in pipes, and dry out skin and hair. Water softeners use ion exchange technology to remove excess minerals, improving efficiency and protecting plumbing systems.
For well water homes, specialized systems can also address iron staining and nitrate concerns when present.

Public water supplies must meet standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency under the Safe Drinking Water Act. However, “safe” doesn’t always mean ideal. Municipal water can still contain chlorine, chloramines, trace contaminants, or minerals that affect taste, odor, and plumbing performance. A water treatment system can further improve quality and comfort.
Water filtration removes contaminants such as chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, and certain chemicals. Water softening specifically removes calcium and magnesium, which cause hard water buildup. Many homes benefit from a combination of both systems.
Most whole-home filtration and water softening systems last 10–15 years or more with proper maintenance. Some components, such as filters or UV bulbs, require periodic replacement. Regular maintenance ensures your system continues performing efficiently.
Hard water contains higher levels of dissolved minerals, mainly calcium and magnesium. These minerals can cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances, leave spots on dishes, reduce soap lather, and contribute to dry skin or dull hair. Soft water has had these minerals removed or reduced, usually through a water softener, which helps soap clean more effectively, prevents mineral buildup, and is gentler on plumbing, appliances, and laundry.
A rotten egg smell in water is usually caused by hydrogen sulfide gas. This can form naturally when sulfur bacteria grow in wells, plumbing, or water heaters, or when organic matter breaks down underground. If the smell only comes from hot water, the water heater is often the source. If it affects all taps, it may be coming from the well or water supply. While small amounts are typically not harmful, the odor can signal bacteria or water quality issues and should be tested. Treatment may include flushing the water heater, disinfecting the system, or installing filtration designed to remove sulfur.
