Do I Need a Heating Tune-Up?
When you want to make sure you’re healthy, you go for a check-up. When you want to make sure your car is safe to drive, you go for an inspection. So why wouldn’t you do the same thing with your heating system?
If it’s been a while since you scheduled your last heating tune-up, these are a few signs that you need to schedule your next one.
This is probably the sign that’s easiest to notice. If you’re weathering the New Jersey winter without any heat because your system isn’t pushing out warm air or won’t turn on at all, you’re overdue for a heating tune-up.
Your Furnace is Very Loud
It’s normal for any machine, your furnace included, to make a little noise while it’s operating. But if your unit sounds like it’s performing its own version of Shake, Rattle, and Roll, you may have a broken blower fan.
During your heating tune-up, your technician will be able to tell why there’s so much noise and make any necessary repairs to reduce the sounds.
Your Unit is Old
If your furnace is older than the day is long, you should definitely be scheduling heating tune-ups regularly. Older units don’t run as efficiently and are more prone to breaking down. If you’re not ready to replace an old unit enitirely, regular heating tune-ups are a must.
Your Furnace Smells Funny
Whether your nose is picking up smokey, burning, or rotten egg scents, you should always schedule a heating tune-up if your furnace smells a bit off. This is especially true if you smell rotten eggs, as this often signals a gas leak.
